Five Xaverian students volunteer at Camp Fatima’s Exceptional Citizens Week
Camp Fatima's Exceptional Citizens Week is a free, overnight camp founded by the Diocese of Manchester, New Hampshire, designed specifically for children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities.
For juniors Wyatt Stazinski and Ethan Searle, this was their first summer volunteering at the camp. They took part as waiters, serving three meals a day to campers. Fellow Hawks and rising seniors, Eamon Murphy, Conor Follett, and Tommy Egan, have spent the past several summers working as waiters as well; however, this summer they advanced to the role of camp counselors. They were responsible for one-on-one care for campers and had a mission of making this the week the very best for all they served.
According to the National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability (NCHPAD) website, “For more than 100 campers, this one week at Camp Fatima is a highlight in their lives. They are treated as exceptional citizens: all activities are centered around their interests and they are catered to by a qualified, enthusiastic and energetic volunteer staff."
