X-Act is a weekly service trip offered by the campus ministry team for all Xaverian students. Through X-Act, our Hawks provide service at various locations in the Greater Boston area. They work at food and furniture banks, spend time with children in afterschool programs, serve at soup kitchens, and provide a ministry of presence in nursing homes. The goal? To allow our young men to get involved with the school community and the local community, while at the same time building relationships with God, self, and others.
During the 2023-2024 school year, X-Act saw some record-setting activity. There were 300 X-Act registrations with 123 total students involved. That’s 13% of Xaverian’s student body! X-Act went on 35 weekly outings, the majority taking place at the same five locations. In Boston, X-Act students serve at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, assisting in their afterschool program. They also help out with the Paulist Center, serving food at the Wednesday Night Supper Club. Closer to home, X-Act works with Benchmark Senior Living in Westwood, New Life Furniture Bank in Walpole, and My Brother’s Keeper in Easton.
In addition to the listed sites, X-Act also had a few unique service opportunities. During Catholic Schools Week, they worked with Ursuline Academy students to make sandwiches for individuals experiencing homelessness in Boston. For Thanksgiving, Xaverian held a food donation drive and X-Act was able to drop off over 2,300 pounds of food to the Norwood Food Pantry. They also collaborated with the Needham Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph’s Parish on a pack-a-thon which provided food for the people of Haiti.
Through X-Act, our Hawks actively live out the Xaverian mission within the local community and learn so much about themselves in the process.
