Premiering on the Xaverian Stage November 22 - 23, 2024.
Rehearsals for Xaverian’s upcoming production of A Few Good Men are well underway. The cast and crew is comprised of over forty Xaverian students in varying grade levels, and several students from surrounding schools. Together, they have been hard at work getting ready to bring this intense courtroom drama to life.
The preparation for this particular show has been a little different than previous Xaverian productions. Not only are the students learning their lines and rehearsing their blocking, they are engaging in full company workouts before rehearsals to help transition their mindsets from high school and middle school students to those of United States Marines. “Our theater students have proven time and time again that they are ready to meet any challenge,” said Ms. Julianne O’Connor, Xaverian’s Theater Director. “Bringing Aaron Sorkin’s powerful drama to the Xaverian stage gives them the perfect opportunity to showcase their myriad talents and dedication to representing their characters.”
Along with weekly exercises and workouts the cast had a unique opportunity to learn from Mr. John Tassinari, a beloved science teacher at Xaverian who served in the United States Military for six years. He volunteered to work with the cast on proper military procedures, customs, and courtesies, so that they are able to authentically portray their roles as members of the Marine Corps in the show.
As the set starts to take shape, the actors begin rehearsing Act 1 off-book, and the date for group military-style haircuts looms closer, the anticipation for what's to come is palpable. Ms. O’Connor is not only looking forward to another exciting Xaverian production, but also to the accomplishments of her students through the work they put into this show. “It's in these moments when I see my students strive for excellence and, in the process, discover things about themselves they never knew existed.”
Xaverian’s Fine and Performing Arts Department will be presenting Aaron Sorkin's critically acclaimed drama A Few Good Men November 22 and 23. Tickets will be available for purchase online in early November. For more information, click here.
